Welcome! We're So Glad You're Coming

First-time visits to playgroup can feel a little daunting, for children and grown-ups alike. We want you to know that every single family at Perfect Squiggle had a first day, and we remember what that felt like. Whether your little one runs straight for the art table or needs the whole session to sit on your lap and watch, you are both welcome exactly as you are.

This guide covers the practical details so you can focus on the fun.

What to Bring

• A change of clothes
• A snack or lunch for your child (snack time at designated areas only to avoid any contamination due to allergies)
• A water bottle for your child
• Nappies and wipes if needed
• Any comfort items: dummy, comforter, favourite toy
• Sunscreen and insect repellant (we occasionally head outside)
• Application form - (first timers only) will be sent via email

We provide smocks for art and painting activities, so your child's clothes are protected as much as possible. That said, paint and sand have a way of finding gaps, so a change of clothes is always a good idea.

What Happens During the Playgroup Session

When you arrive, simply sign in at the door and pay the session fee. Cash, bank transfer or eftpos all accepted.

The hall will already be set up with a variety of engaging play experiences for children to explore. Activities may include an art table, sensory play, building blocks, literacy corner, dramatic play, small world play, and much more. Our play spaces change each week, giving children something new and exciting to discover every session.

Everything remains set up throughout the morning, allowing children the freedom to move between activities at their own pace and follow their interests.

There is no set structure for your child to follow, no pressure to participate in any particular activity, and no strict timetable. Children are encouraged to learn through play, curiosity, and exploration in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

At 11:15am, we come together as a community to tidy up before heading home, helping children develop a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and belonging.

What Happens During the Baby Squiggle Sessions

Our Baby Squiggles class runs from 9:00am – 12:00pm and offers a semi-structured program designed to support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through meaningful play and connection.

Each week follows a different theme, with families receiving the term schedule upon enrolment so they can see all the exciting adventures ahead.

Throughout the session, children are invited to explore a variety of carefully planned experiences that may include:

• Music and Movement
• Story Time
• Early Literacy Experiences
• Sensory Play
• Group Activities and Cooperative Play
• Nature Play
• Dramatic and Imaginative Play
• Creative Arts and Crafts
• Fine and Gross Motor Activities

While the session includes some structured group experiences, there is plenty of opportunity for child-led exploration, allowing each little squiggle to participate in ways that suit their interests, abilities, and stage of development.

Your Role as a Caregiver

Playgroup Sessions

Perfect Squiggle is a caregiver-accompanied playgroup. You stay with your child throughout the session. The relationship between caregiver and child is the most important factor in early learning, and our activities are designed to be enjoyed together as much as independently.

You'll often find that children gain confidence quickly and start to explore on their own, especially when caregivers are relaxed and chatting with other families. So grab a seat, get to know someone new, and let them go at their own pace.

Baby Squiggle Sessions

Baby Squiggles is a drop and go program. Once children have been signed in, parents and caregivers are welcome to leave and enjoy some time to themselves while their little squiggles participate in the session.

Our educators create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can build confidence, independence, and social connections while exploring a variety of play-based learning experiences.

We understand that every child settles differently. For children who are new to the program, we encourage families to work with educators to ensure a smooth and positive transition into the group.

If Your Child Finds It Hard at First

Some children dive straight in. Others need time. Here are some common first-visit experiences:

• Clingy or cautious: Stay close, narrate what you see, and follow their lead. Most children warm up within two or three visits.
• Overwhelmed by noise or busy spaces: The literacy corner is the quietest part of the hall and makes a good starting point for sensory-sensitive children.
• Doesn't want to leave: Also completely normal, and a great sign!

Our facilitators are experienced at gently supporting families through the settling-in process. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you need anything at all.

Parking & Getting Here

There is free on-site parking directly outside the hall.

By public transport, Bald Hills train station is approximately 400m away (5min walk). The 680 and 905 bus routes serve Gympie Road.
